Founded by Johann Vaillant as a plumbing business, Vaillant has for decade's pioneered break through concepts, from the first gas fired water heater known as a "geyser" in the 1900s to the first electric geyser during the 1960s. In the late 60s Vaillant pioneered the combination boiler (or combi boiler for short), a concept which combines the heating and hot water functionality into one unit.

In 2001 Vaillant acquired British company Hepworth PLC for £692 million. Hepworth who ironically proposed a takeover bid for Vaillant the previous year were a collective of boiler brands - Glow-Worm, Sauniar Duval, DemirDokum, Heatline, Protherm and AWB. This group of boilers brands is known today as Vaillant Group.

Today Vaillant is one of the UKs leading manufacturers of central heating boilers and mechanical systems. With an annual turnover in excess of £1 billion. Vaillant is still very much a family run business with 4 production sites in Germany: Remscheid, Bergheim, Roding and Gelsenkirchen and further sites in Slovakia, Turkey, China, Spain, France and the United Kingdom.

Until May 2012 CENTROCARE awarded Vaillant's ecoTEC pro boiler series an informal commitment to replace boilers classified as "beyond economical repair" under Advanced and Expert cover.
